Whether a budding Beethoven or an Elton John wannabe, our online piano students learn piano basics up to advanced techniques with our customized music instruction.
The key (no pun intended) to learning piano is discipline. Learning to move your fingers in time to the music, pressing the right pedals, and being able to read music and play independently are some serious skills to acquire. But once you learn piano basics step by step, there’s no telling where you can go. You might just be the next pop icon or musical maestro of your neighborhood! All of our students have dreams, and we love encouraging and supporting them each step of the way.
We are proud to say we’ve been bringing quality piano instruction to our clients in their own homes for over two decades now, and now we’re making it even easier by bringing the lessons to a screen near you!
With our online piano lessons, you don’t have to sacrifice the high quality, one-one-one educational experience you’ve come to expect from Metro Music Makers, but you can benefit from the convenience of lessons anytime and anywhere, all conducted via a video chat with a highly trained, professional, Metro Music Makers piano instructor.

Why should we consider online piano lessons with Metro Music Makers?
Online lessons are the most convenient type of piano lesson. In-person piano lessons, in a studio or even in your own home, can disrupt the flow of a family’s daily routine when things have to come to a grinding halt— either to drive to a lesson, or to quickly pick up the house to welcome in a piano teacher. Then there is the time lost for the parent and siblings while the student is taking piano lessons… Even when parents can carry along a laptop or catch up on calls, it’s hard to conduct business or have a conversation over the symphony of educational sounds pouring through the piano studio. Many parents in this situation are frustrated by the realization that they are losing precious time they need to accomplish any number of things. Even in-home piano lessons can cost the parent valuable time, and can be stressful for other family members who have to keep quiet or stay out of the way while the piano lesson is happening.
Online piano lessons, however, are the least hindrance to the family’s day. Parents can simply send a child to the piano lesson on the computer while they are taking on other tasks, such as finishing housework, helping other siblings with homework, or maybe even enjoying a good book—and siblings are able to keep their routines going as well. All in all, Metro Music Makers’ online lessons have taken our already convenient form of music education to an even more comfortable level for piano students. By choosing online piano lessons with Metro Music Makers, parents can reap the benefits of added time without sacrificing educational quality.
Are there any other benefits to your online piano lessons?
Yes! For one, you can take piano lessons online with Metro Music Makers anywhere and anytime. This means you are not limited to teachers in your own town—or even in another state or country! Piano students aren’t limited anymore by where they live or what piano teachers are available in their area. Our piano teachers are available to teach students from any part of the world! This means we can offer a sense of normalcy for music education to families who might be moving often, such as military families or families moving for work—or students who move households between divorced parents.
Online piano lessons also create additional and different times for our teachers to teach. Professional musicians are no longer limited to teaching hours in the small window between the end of school and the close of business hours. PIano teachers can teach as early or as late as they and the students are comfortable. And parents no longer have to host piano teachers in their home at late hours. Without commutes to homes or even a studio, top piano teachers are also now able to open up more spots to take on students, resulting in piano students getting a better education from excellent teachers.
How will my child respond to Metro Music Makers’ virtual piano lessons?
Even though we parents and teachers may not love it, the truth is that screen-based learning is natural for today’s students. Even at school, students are still learning on a screen at times. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we had to take all of our students to a virtual music lesson model, and we were surprised to have many of our parents report their students were more engaged in their lessons. An MIT study examining traditional vs online education found that “the amount learned is somewhat greater than in the traditional lecture-based course,” and that “online courses have increased student retention rates from anything from 25% to 60%.” Online students are not only more engaged, but they are also continuing with lessons more often when they are participating virtually.
Online piano students are also growing in new ways that continue to surprise us. Online piano lessons take a greater level of commitment of preparation and practice. Online piano students are more likely to recognize the areas they need to grow as a result of their performances online. Many online piano students have had to learn to self-educate, since they can no longer rely solely on teachers to just show them how it’s done—or do it for them. Online piano students are taking responsibility for their own musical education. They have to take ownership by logging on to their piano lessons, communicating with their teacher, tracking their own musical goals, executing assignments on their own, and meeting deadlines. Many of our students have been brought to a new level of responsibility with online piano lessons, which assuredly will transfer to other areas of their lives.
What about piano recitals and performance opportunities for students taking virtual piano lessons with Metro Music Makers?
We believe having our piano students perform for an audience is an important part of their growth, and our online students do not have to sacrifice this opportunity! We have created a platform for online recitals that has proven in many cases to be both more comfortable for the piano student and more enjoyable for the audience than traditional piano recitals. PIano students are given the option to stream live or to pre-record their piano pieces. Then at their recital time, they log onto a Zoom call with other Metro Music Makers’ students studying all sorts of instruments from all over the region and either perform their pieces live online, or host their pre-recorded performance.
Our piano students do a wonderful job in these online recitals and even learn from them. Those students that share previously recorded performances have to hear themselves perform—something that’s not even fun for professional pianists but allows for self-reflection. Because of this, many of our piano students seek to get better after they see themselves on film.
