Our young piano students make rapid progress when they take lessons in their own homes. They have the support of family around them, and they don’t have to travel to a foreign environment – almost none of the stresses of traditional music lessons are present. This helps students enjoy music, learn concepts more quickly, and bring their authentic self to lessons.

With that in mind, we cover all of the fundamentals in piano lessons. While we make lessons fun with games, duets, and even skill level-appropriate covers of music your child will love, we also make sure they learn how to read notes, play with good technique, identify key signatures and time signatures, sight read, play with dynamics, and more.

With teens, we are often building on some level of previous musical knowledge. We will quickly assess any gaps in their piano learning, assign fun and engaging repertoire that will challenge them to improve, and diagnose any technical flaws that may be holding them back. Whether your child wants to play for fun, get a college music degree, or learn to compose music, we are here to help.

Beginner and Advanced Piano Instruction

All students learn how to read bass and treble clefs, identify sharps and flats, play five finger patterns and scales, play with dynamics and articulation, and play with ideal technique fairly quickly. We also place an emphasis on getting students into real music right from the first lesson. The fundamentals you learn will help you pursue any genre or long term goal on the piano.

Intermediate and advanced pianists may dive into concepts like modes, the form of a piece of music, how to interpret it, moderate to advanced theory concepts like scale degrees, five-of-fives, and more, and other musical items. In a nutshell, we can help you learn music, practice it efficiently, memorize it, and prepare to perform in front of others.

You can play Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, Broadway and pop tunes, holiday music, and more, and we will give you all of the knowledge and practice strategies you need.

Songwriting and Composition

Some of our students express an interest in songwriting, composition, and a deeper understanding of music theory (possibly for AP coursework in high school, ABRSM exams, college admittance or other outlets). This can be a wonderful accompaniment to piano lessons.
