Valentine’s Recital at Dogwood Forest

Time:  3:30 – 4:30 pm

Location: Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Community, 4125 North Point Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30022

Deadline for participation is February 3. Space is limited.

Details: This is the perfect opportunity for our students to share their talent with seniors living in a local assisted living community. The residents at Dogwood Forest always provide a warm and friendly audience for our students. This is a Valentine’s Day themed recital, and we request that all participants wear Valentine’s Day colors including red, pink, purple, white, etc. We also recommend that the students perform pieces that the seniors know. The seniors love singing along to songs from their youth and reminiscing about days gone by. A list of songs for seniors may be found at http://www.seniorsentertainer.com/songs.html.

March 17, 2012

NFMC Federated Festival

Time: Each student will be assigned a specific audition time.

Location: Piano Works, 2805 Buford Hwy, Duluth, GA 30096

Early Registration Deadline: January 23,2012

$25 fee per event. *Registration fee after 01/23/12 is $35 per event. Registration will close on February 17.

Judging events are available for the following instruments: Piano, Violin, Voice, Guitar

Details: In 2011, we started our own local club so that we can offer this event to our students. We are very excited to be able to offer this opportunity to our guitar students this year for the very first time.  In addition, we have several students eligible to win gold cup trophies at this year’s festival.

Participants are required to perform 2 pieces from memory in a closed audition with a judge. The judges are instructed to provide positive and constructive feedback in order to encourage the students in their studies. This is an extremely valuable experience for our students and teachers, and we encourage each of our students to participate.

For specific details about this opportunity, please contact Allison Boyd at 678-637-7293 or allison@metromusicmakers.com. Our recital dress code is recommended for the festival event.

MMM Recital Etiquette Guidelines:

  1. Show up at least 15 minutes early to find students’ assigned seats, use the bathroom, etc. Students may arrive even earlier as designated by an instructor if they need to tune or warm up.
  2. Students must sit in their assigned seats at least 5 minutes prior to start time so that we can start on time. Students who do not sit in their assigned seat will not be able to participate.
  3. Students must bow or curtsy at the end of their performances in order to acknowledge the audience members. Not to do so is considered disrespectful in the traditional recital setting.
  4. Students and audience members are expected to remain quiet through the entire length of the recital. If an issue must be addressed, we ask that audience members leave quietly and return only between performances so as not to disturb the performers.
  5. Students and audience members are expected to remain for the entire length  of the recital. Everyone is busy this time of year, and each child has worked hard for his/her shining moment. It is considered impolite to leave early unless there is an emergency.
  6. No texting, tweeting, facebooking, etc during the performances. Students should not have electronic devices on  their person while sitting in their assigned seats.
  7. No chewing gum, please.

Dress Code:

  • Boys:  Slacks and collared shirts. (Coat and tie are optional.)  No tennis shoes.
  • Girls:  Knee-length skirts/dresses or slacks. No flip-flops or mini-skirts.
  • Inappropriate clothing:  t-shirts with printed logos, jeans, shorts/mini-skirts, flip-flops, tennis shoes
  • *Students with long hair should pull their hair back and away from the face.
